Preventative & Family Dentistry

Healthy smiles start with consistency, clarity, and early detection. Preventative and family dentistry focuses on catching problems early, before they become painful, complex, or costly. Whether it’s your first visit in years, your child’s routine check-up, or part of your family’s ongoing care, our goal is to make dental visits calm, positive, and predictable.

At The Point Dental, we take a personalised, whole-family approach. We support parents in building healthy habits at home, help children feel confident in the chair, and provide gentle guidance for patients who feel anxious or overwhelmed. Preventative care isn’t just about clean teeth, it’s about long-term health, education, and empowering your family to take control of their oral health journey.

What Happens at a Preventative Visit?

A preventative appointment begins with diagnosis first, not a clean. This ensures we understand what’s happening under the surface and tailor the care you actually need.

Your visit includes:

Comprehensive Examination

We begin by assessing your teeth, gums, soft tissues, bite, and overall oral health. This helps us identify any potential concerns early.

Dental X-Rays

Bitewing X-rays help us detect decay between the teeth, assess bone levels, and spot issues not visible to the eye.

OPG or 3D Scan (if needed)

These images give a complete overview of your teeth, jaws, sinuses, and developing wisdom teeth.

Diagnosis & Treatment Planning

We walk you through our findings with clarity and care, outlining what is healthy, what needs attention, and the most reliable way forward. If treatment is advised, we present a structured plan so timing, costs, and expectations are clear from the outset.

Professional Clean

Only after the exam and diagnosis do we begin your clean. This may include: Scale and polish, Gum health cleaning, Mineral Protection or Anti decay coating, and Personalised home-care guidance. This order ensures every clean is safe, appropriate, and tailored to your needs.

By starting with diagnosis and finishing with a tailored clean, a preventative visit focuses on understanding your oral health first, then delivering care that is appropriate, precise, and personalised. The result is clarity, confidence, and a long-term approach designed to protect your smile, not just maintain it.

Why Preventative Dentistry Matters

Preventative care helps you:

Avoid pain and dental emergencies

Detect problems early, when treatment is simplest

Reduce the risk of gum disease, decay, and infection

Maintain fresh breath and healthy gums

Keep dental costs low over time

Protect cosmetic work like veneers, crowns, or implants

Support your child’s long-term oral health development

For children, it also builds lifelong positive habits. For anxious adults, it provides clarity and calm, instead of waiting until things become painful.
